Lemmy: The movie

26/11/10  ||  Khlysty

I hate film festivals!!! I hate them for a legion of reasons: most of the movies shown there are shitty; if there’s a couple who don’t suck major dick, they will be shown in a date and/or time when I won’t be able to watch them; the “film-buff” crowd is nothing more than a bunch of shits who use silly, multiparted words to describe what basically is a quality-less rehash of older, more important films. And more… Fuck it, man!

But, sometimes there’s a chance to watch –in a festival- some movie that’s really interesting. Last year, I had the opportunity to watch “Until The Light Takes Us” and talk with its creators and I really liked the whole gig. And, this year, I’m really happy to tell you that I was able to catch a preview of “Lemmy – The Movie”, which, as you can easily deduce from the title, is about Rihanna and her sex-and-drugs antics.

Seriously, now, “Lemmy” is one hell of a great documentary about Lemster and his flowery career in the world of rock’n’roll. The movie is basically centered around Lemmy’s here-and-now: we get to see him at favorite watering hole, drinking Jack-and-colas and playing one-armed-bandits. We take a guided tour in Lemmy’s two-room, seriously cluttered apartment in L.A. We get to meet his son, Paul, and learn how the two men got to meet each other.

We also delve into Lemmy’s vices (booze, drugs, collection of Nazi WWII paraphernalia, etc). We see a lot of music people –from Metallica and Hawkwind to Billy Bob Thornton and The Damned- talk about him in awe and respect. And we learn a lot of anecdotes concerning the Man, the Myth and the Moles. I think –I ain’t exactly sure…- that the documentary follows the steps of Lemmy’s autobiography, “White Line Fever” and it paints an endearing portrait of one of the greatest rock’n’roll proponents of our times.

As for the live parts of the documentary, hey, it’s Lemmy, y’know? It’s bloody Motörhead, right? Whaddafuck do you expect? It’s fast, it’s noisy, it’s “Everything Louder Than Everything Else”. So, we get to see Lemmy playing live with Metallica, with The Damned and with Motörhead, and every fucking time he kicks so much ass, I can’t even begin to tell you. Fuggit, man, this is a movie about Lemmy. You fucking SHOULD go and see it, okay? That’s all there is to it. Now, go!!! Sheesh…
